Vernon Girls Sports Introductory Camp

Youth participation in girls' sports has steadily decreased over the past decade, leading to a myriad of physical health issues including childhood obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. This decline in physical activity among the youth has also contributed to the decline in mental health, leading to issues such as depression and anxiety. Sports teach values such as teamwork, responsibility, discipline, and perseverance, all of which lead to a successful and healthy lifestyle.

The Vernon Girls Sports Introductory Camp was created to combat the declining numbers of participation in girls' youth sports. This is a non-profit one-day event that will be held on June 3rd, 2023 at Maple Grange Park in Vernon NJ for young girls aged 6-9.

With the help of volunteers from the high school girls sports teams, participants will be introduced to soccer, lacrosse, cheer, softball, and basketball through a series of short activities and games. Parents will be provided with resources to sign up their children for the next season of their chosen sport in the Vernon Youth Program.

FAQ

Home: FAQ

Does this camp cost any money?

This camp is completely free. Everyone who has chosen to contribute to this project is strictly volunteer, and all equipment and field time has been donated to us. We want this camp to be as accessible as possible to provide an easy way for young girls to discover a variety of sports.

How will you introduce five sports in only three hours?

Each station will be around 25 minutes since these will be brief introductions to each sport. Additionally, we understand how difficult it is to keep young children interested for extended periods of time, so it's better to keep each station short.

When should my child arrive on the day of the event?

The camp will begin at 9:00 am sharp, so you should plan on arriving at 8:45 am at the latest to account for check-in at the tent and organizing into the five groups. All your child will need are sneakers, water, and a snack.
